Layouts require Show plan or above. See Plans and feature availability for details.

The layout editor is where you divide the canvas into zones and assign a playlist to each one.

To open it, create a new layout or click the name of an existing layout on the Layouts page.

The Toolbar

The toolbar runs across the top of the editor:

  • Breadcrumb link: returns you to the Layouts page.
  • Layout name: click to edit in place.
  • Canvas dimensions: width and height fields with preset buttons for common resolutions.
  • Undo / Redo.
  • Save state indicator: reads Saved when everything is up to date, and Unsaved changes as soon as you make any edit.
  • Discard: reverts all unsaved changes after a confirmation prompt.
  • Preview: opens the layout in a new browser tab.
  • Save: commits your changes.

There is no autosave. Click Save to keep your changes, or Discard to revert them.

The Canvas

The canvas shows a scaled version of your layout. At the start it is a single undivided zone. Zones appear in one of two states:

  • Unassigned: black background with a red + icon. The text "Add a playlist" appears in red, with "unassigned" shown in grey below.
  • Assigned: light background with the playlist name centred.

If you need to set up a playlist before assigning it, jump to Create a Playlist or Edit an Existing Playlist below.

Assign a Playlist to a Zone

Click anywhere inside a zone. A popup opens with a search field and a scrollable list of your playlists. The currently assigned playlist is marked with a tick. Click any playlist to assign it to that zone.

Split a Zone

In the zone popup, three buttons appear at the bottom:

  • Split ↕: divides the zone horizontally into a top half and a bottom half.
  • Split ↔: divides the zone vertically into a left half and a right half.
  • Remove split: merges the zone back with its sibling. The playlist from the zone you clicked is kept in the merged zone.

After splitting, drag the red dividing line to adjust the proportions. Zones can be split recursively. There is no hard limit on zone count.

Overlays

Below the canvas is an Overlays section. Click + Add Overlay to add elements that float over the entire layout, such as a logo or clock. See Creating and Managing Overlays for details.

Preview Your Layout

Click Preview in the toolbar. The layout opens in a new browser tab showing live content from each assigned playlist. URL items that do not allow embedding will appear blank. This is a browser restriction, not a Panelicious issue.

Discard Changes

Click Discard in the toolbar. A confirmation prompt appears before any unsaved changes are removed. If there are no unsaved changes, the Discard button is inactive.

Create a Playlist

Go to Playlists in the left-hand menu and click + New Playlist. See Creating and Managing Playlists for full details.

Edit an Existing Playlist

Go to Playlists in the left-hand menu, find the playlist, and click its name to open the editor. See Playlist Settings for information on playback options and sequence settings.

If you downgrade to a plan that does not include Layouts, existing layouts can still be renamed or deleted but cannot be created or edited. Any layouts used as content in playlists will be removed.
